Couch to 5K

Last year my mom started getting in to running. To date her biggest run has been 15K and she's training to do a half marathon this fall. I'm not active at all, I'll be the first to admit that I'm pretty out of shape. However, whenever the weather started getting nicer this year I told my mom that I wanted to run a 5K with her this year. Well, spring as come and gone, and summer will soon be leaving us too and I haven't done as much as even walk 5K! Part of the issue is that most of the runs that happen are on weekends, during the few hours that I actually work during the week. I've decided though, that I'm willing to take a day off of work so I can do a 5K run. I don't often say I'm going to do something, so I want to stick with it!
There's a 5K in October called the "Halloween Hustle". The registration fee goes to the IWK Children's Hospital, and it's run on the trails, and there's free hot chocolate at the end. The best part? You run wearing a Halloween costume and there's a prize for best costume. What more to get me motivated to do my first 5K than my favorite holiday, right?
Okay, so October is pretty far away, but if I haven't been active all summer will I be able to train myself enough to be able to handle a 5K run? Keep in mind that I am out of breath and gagging to the point of almost making myself sick just for running for about a minute. I Googled "5K training" and found this great site, Couch to 5K! It's a nine week training program to get you from doing little to no exercise, to be ready to run 5K! Just what I need. To make it even better, the guy who started the site has downloadable podcasts that you can put on your MP3 player to listen to while doing the training. He tells you when to change from brisk walking, to running, to cool down, all with music to keep you going. This is just what I need. I'm not enough of a motivation for myself, and besides my mama, I have nobody to ask to run with. I'm starting tomorrow. I do three days of running, and the days in between are rest days. I'm really excited to go through with this. I've spent all summer, and the months before the summer just sitting around doing nothing! Everybody lately seems to be getting into running, and I want in! Look out world, here I come!

Friday Funday

I'm not one to have big weekend plans. Personally, I've always seen the weekend as a tad overrated. I have just as much fun, if not more, during the week than on a weekend. However, the fact that I only work on the weekends probably has some reasoning for that. I had a great Friday though!

Looks delicious, doesn't it?
Dan and I decided for supper we'd pool our money together and treat ourselves to a medium cheese pizza from Greco. Now, I could honestly eat Greco pizza every day of the week and not get sick of it. It is just delicious. I'm pretty picky with my pizza sauce, but they get it down just right! Of course we ate in, because even though delivery is convenient, there's nothing that beats the taste of pizza that is hot and fresh out of the oven. It's even nicer when it's a hot day, you're feeling great, with the person you enjoy spending time with and it just so happens that pizza is your favorite food.

Beautiful view!
Mmm, ice cream!
Since we've been having such wonderful weather, after we were finished of our pizza (which we gobbled down every last piece of) that we couldn't just head back inside just yet. We ended up taking a walk down to Victoria Park. It was beautiful walking along the boardwalk. The water was calm, the sun was shining and was extremely warm, and there was just a very calm, happy vibe. We climbed up on a hill and sat there just watching the ocean, talking, and enjoying the sunshine for a bit. Of course some photos were snapped whilst doing so! To end out little Friday outing on a good note, Dan treated us to ice cream! How perfect is that, my two favorite foods in one day! I had the most delicious flavor ever (okay, one of the most delicious flavors ever!) My flavor was called "chocolate peanut butter sensation", so as you can imagine, it was more than delightful! Peanut butter and chocolate is one of my favorite combinations, but when you add ice cream in to the mix, then it's just amazing! Dan had "brownies on the moon" which is the perfect flavor for him because he loves chocolate, and he loves brownies.

The later part of the night was spent chatting with a good friend and sipping on a few coolers, nothing to complain about there! I hope everyone else is able to say they had an enjoyable Friday, because I know I sure did. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

A hunting we will go

Today I stopped by Value Village and picked up a job application. That's the easy part. Now I have to fill it out, which is simple enough as well. However the hard part is going back and handing it in. I don't know why, but applying for jobs, and basically anything that involves me talking to a strange just kills me. For those of you who are out going and don't suffer from any sort of social anxiety, I envy you.
There's been talks of moving out in the air. I'm not 100% sure how soon I want to move back out whenever I do, but I do know that in order for that to even be an option, I need a new job. Even if it's months before I actually do find my own place, I am more than ready to have more hours at a job. I have way too much free time. Can you imagine only working about 15 hours a week? That's only on the weekends too, which leaves my whole week open. As someone who doesn't have very much of a social life, or any hobbies having five days a week with nothing to do is just getting old and boring! Let's wish me luck on the job hunt, and on my future apartment hunt.

~*First Post*~

I suppose the most appropriate topic for my first post would be to simply introduce myself.
My name is Samantha, but you can feel free to call me Sam or any other nickname you find appropriate for me. I was born and raised in the east coast of Canada, and I don't plan on ever living elsewhere.
I graduate high school June 2010, which was a year later than I should have finished but hey, better late than never!
As for my job situation, I work as a busgirl at a local diner that is owned by my step-father and his best friend. I only work fairly small shifts on the weekends, so during the week I feel like any other unemployed young adult. I'm content with my less-than part-time job for now. I've never been in a rush to grow up, and I feel as if that's okay, even if a lot of people wouldn't agree.
I live with my parents in a nice rural area that's just a short distance from town. I have a four year old, big, fat, sassy black cat named Sirius, and my step-dad has a dog (whom I don't care too much for) and her name is Kali.
I spend half of my nights usually in town with my boyfriend (oops, haven't mentioned him yet!). His name is Dan, and he has a wonderful black cat named Loki who I love as if she were my own cat.
My social life isn't too booming, but I'm trying to accept that. I haven't had a group of friends in many years, and each year gets harder to try and make friends as I've got some lovely social anxiety that likes to get in the way of life.
Now, I feel as if that's a pretty good basic run down on my life. I'll try to update this at least twice a week. I'll include photos from my week, you can guarantee there will be lots of images of the cats in my life! Maybe I'll even include reviews of any movies I've recently watched, or of restaurants I've ate at, just little things that allow me to share my voice. That's the main part of this blog, I feel like my voice doesn't get out there as much as I would like, and I'm hoping this helps!
